Please Release Me – Splash!

Today I’m helping to celebrate, with a big SPLASH, Rhoda Baxter’s fabulous new book Please Release Me. This post is all about being stuck on the WIP, in a big way. Now, at the school where I work, I’m in charge of rattling out the poems. This isn’t a compliment – it’s just that when anyone leaves, someone has to be in charge of writing a truly awful bit of doggerel for the assembly with the flowers. gifts, tears ets. So in honour of Rhoda, here’s today’s bit of awfulness:

Stuck

The thing about this writing lark

Is how it makes you feel;

Sometimes so full of energy

When words are no big deal.

But other times (just like today)

There’s no point even trying.

I tear my hair, I curse and swear

And frankly, feel like crying.

 The reason is, some agents

Made comments on my book

It’s hard to be objective

When someone takes a look.

Because they’re all so different

Some frown, and some say ‘NO!’

But others say it’s marvellous

So how am I to know?

Rewriting and reshaping

Will take a lot of pluck,

And this is why the well’s run dry

I’m absolutely stuck.

The blurb:

What if you could only watch as your bright future slipped away from you?

Sally Cummings has had it tougher than most but, if nothing else, it’s taught her to grab opportunity with both hands. And, when she stands looking into the eyes of her new husband Peter on her perfect wedding day, it seems her life is finally on the up.

That is until the car crash that puts her in a coma and throws her entire future into question.

In the following months, a small part of Sally’s consciousness begins to return, allowing her to listen in on the world around her – although she has no way to communicate.

But Sally was never going to let a little thing like a coma get in the way of her happily ever after …
